Francesca Altolt’s Top 10 Pictures of 2011!

We welcome Francesca Altoft to the Horse Racing Tavern!  Francesca has been supplying us with her superb horse racing pictures since the end of last year, and you will be seeing a lot more of her work in 2012 at the Horse Racing Tavern!   Francesca runs through her top ten pictures of 2011.

10. In tenth place is this photo of Al Ferof in the winners enclosure at Cheltenham after he won in November, I feel the photo captures the horse’s personality perfectly and he looks like he knew he’d won. He appears to be looking straight at the camera and looks very pleased with himself.
9. In ninth place is this photo of Final Flyer at Market Rasen in August. The shadow of the blinkers over the eye creates a great effect against the pink and blue of the blinkers and the similar colour of the sky. The faint twinkle in his eye creates life in the image. The faint twinkle in his eye creates life in the image.
8. This photo of Fair Along on his way down to the start at Cheltenham, for me, shows the relationship between Rhys Flint and the horse, both look incredibly happy and I love the fact there is no movement to be seen in the background.
7. This photo of the horses going round the top bend at Wetherby has great colour. There is a wide range of colour in the jockey’s silks and this stands out against the dark colours of the horses and the trees in the background. The horses are all leaning at a slight angle which I love.
6. I love this photo of the finish in the first race at Doncaster on St Leger day. It shows Trumpet Major, Red Duke, Entifaadha and Daddy Long Legs all in a line coming up to the line, and they finished in that order too!
5. This photo of Mwaleshi at Market Rasen captures the horse just in the right position coming over the fence and the colour of the silks stand out against the colour of the horse.
4. I took this photo of Phil Makin’s knee at Pontefract and I love it, the shine on the boot against the dull coloured horse and bright colours of the breeches and silks creates a bright and effective photo.
3. This photo of Masked Marvel in the winners enclosure shows great expression on the horse’s face. He has such a kind and gentle face and this photo shows that.
2. I love this photo of Mad Moose and Willy Twiston-Davies, I love the action and the look of delight on Willy’s face.
1. Finally, I feel this photo of Long Run is my best photo of 2011. The green background makes the photo stand out and his dark eyes and orange on his browband draws attention to Long Run himself. He had a very glossy coat that day and that is what I feel makes this photo great. He looked in great condition the day before he headed off on his summer holiday.
